Bilirubin Total & Direct

Bilirubin Total & Direct

Intended Use:

Test for estimation of Bilirubin in serum / plasma using DMSO method.

Introduction:

Bilirubin is a yellow pigment in everyone’s blood and stool. Sometimes the liver can’t process the bilirubin in the body. This can be due to an excess of bilirubin, an obstruction, or inflammation of the liver. Direct bilirubin is elevated in obstructive jaundice and cirrhosis of liver whereas indirect bilirubin is elevated in prehepatic disorders (hemolysis of impaired conjugation or transport) in liver. Estimation of bilirubin can be done in serum / plasma using Jendrassik & Grof method.
